More than two million potholes were filled in last year across England and Wales, according to the Asphalt Industry Alliance.

This year there has been a 59% increase in the number of potholes compared to last year and councils are being warned they need more than £10bn to fix the problem.

The carmaker Rolls-Royce has unveiled an electric version of its Phantom car.

The Rolls-Royce 102EX Phantom Experimental Electric is kitted out with a battery believed to be the largest of any electric car yet.

At the moment the car is just a prototype - the company wants to get some feedback from its customers before they start to produce more.

The BBC's Jorn Madslien was one of the few journalists given a first look at the car.

PC John Carr was sacked by Strathclyde Police, fined £1500 and tried for assault.

WHY? because he responded to a call from The Fire Brigade asking for a Police Escort as they were at risk from hooligans. He saw Firemen being attacked with burning sticks, and managed to apprehend two of the yobs resonsible, aged 14 and 15 years, and drag them to the Police van. The yobs were let off and now want to sue the PC for Criminal Injuries which they have a good chance of winning.

It is with no real enthusiasm that I write once again about bankers' pay. If you feel you've read this story before, well I would understand.

But there is a pubic interest in shining a light on the remuneration practices of Royal Bank of Scotland, since we as taxpayers rescued it from extinction in the autumn of 2008 and we own 83% of the bank.

The guys (mostly men) who run that bank work for us, in that sense.

So what have we learned from the publication of its annual report and accounts today?

    BBC News - Civil service: Warning over Whitehall pay bill rise

    An increase in the number of middle managers means the civil service is facing a growing pay bill, the National Audit Office (NAO) has warned.

    Staff numbers have fallen by 1% over the past decade, but there has been a 10% real-terms rise in staff costs, which now stand at £16.4bn a year.

    A 67% rise in the numbers in middle management grades accounts for half of that increase in costs.
